Social Studies

Understanding how the world works is important for young adults. In high school, students will study history and government and learn about how social studies affects their lives.

Most states require three to four years of social studies coursework in high school,

including:
  • Economics
  • Geography
  • U.S. Government
  • U.S. History
  • World History

Due to the convoluted nature of the United States SSE curriculums, it was important that we select one that is aligned with our vision and that poses no conflict with our own history and global comprehension.

Hence we selected the Indiana state standards for SSE

Indiana has adopted Core Standards: Core Academic Concepts Across the K-12 Continuum. ” e Core Standards, a complement to Indiana’s Academic Standards, explicitly highlight the “big ideas” for each grade level and content area, give proper weight to concepts central to advancement across subsequent grade levels, allow for instructionally-supportive assessments, and encourage the integration of curricula across content areas. ” e Core Standards build upon Indiana’s Academic Standards by integrating multiple Standard Indicators into a small number of instructionally-coherent targets that refl ect priorities for each school year or course. It is our sincerest hope that the Core Standards help teachers’ efforts in defining and developing curriculum, selecting instruction, assessing student outcomes and integrating content areas when appropriate to support the success of Indiana’s students.

We pride ourselves on creating an environment where students love coming to school and are challenged to achieve their personal and academic potential.
